Bulgarian Old Towns Tour

Your tour starts from Sofia airport where you will be transferred to your hotel for an overnight.

On the next day meet your English-speaking driver and enjoy your journey, by private car.

1. Koprivshtitsa

Visit some Museum houses in Koprivishtitsa such as the Kableshkov House, the Dimcho Debelyanov house, Lyutova House, or Benkovski house. Koprivishtitsa is also famous with its folklore festivals, held each forth year. Take a rest at the Pod Starata Krusha restaurant and have a lunch.

2. Plovdiv

In the early afternoon continue to Plovdiv, a city with 6000 years of ancient history and also known as the European Capital of Culture in 2019. 

Explore the old town, full of historical buildings, many churches, galleries, museums, crafts and souvenirs shops. Don’t miss to visit the Ancient Theater, dating back the 1st century A.D. Today, the Ancient theater of Plovdiv is adapted to the contemporary cultural life of the city. Different performances and concerts take place here.

Arrange some photo stops in the Museum houses of Balabanov, Hindlian, Klianti and Nedkovich built in the early years of 19th century. If you are more interested in the culture, folklore and customs of that period take your time and visit the Regional Ethnographic Museum.

For art lovers there are a couple of galleries and especially interesting is the Permanent exhibition of Zlatyu Boyadzhiev. Meanwhile don’t miss to visit the recently discovered Bishop`s Basilica of Philippopolis, which is included in the UNESCO Cultural Tentative list.

If you feel tired from your walking tour don’t hesitate to have a break in one of the many cafes and restaurants of Plovdiv. Definitely you will have an unforgettable gourmet experience. The overnight will be in Plovdiv but be sure that one day is not enough to explore the city. Therefore we recommend you to one more day.

3. Kazanlak

On your third day depart to Kazanlak and visit to the Thracian tomb, part of UNESCO world heritage and the Museum of Roses. If your travel takes place in the period of middle May till middle June you will be lucky to see and smell the famous Bulgarian roses. Be sure to buy some rose oil products and presents for your beloved ones.

4. Veliko Tarnovo and Arbanassi

In the afternoon you will reach the town of Veliko Tarnovo, known as the third Bulgarian capital. This city is also very romantic and beautiful. Walk the Ethnographic Street of Samovodska charshia, where you will see the local craftsmen work and their products. Make sure to taste the coffee prepared on a hot sand and the local delights. Don’t forget to buy some local souvenirs. Overnight in Veliko Tarnovo.

On the next day in the morning take a tour to the Tsarevets fortress (12-14th century), located on a hill with the same name. Be careful climbing up and down and enjoy the beautiful view.

Follow your tour to the village of Arbanassi, another interesting and famous spot popular with its old churches, traditional houses and many taverns. I must see spot is the Nativity church, one of the oldest and most richly decorated. Take your time and have a delicious lunch in the nearby tavern.

5. Sofia

In the late afternoon transfer back to Sofia. Overnight in Sofia.

On your last day, depending on your flight you may have some free time to scroll the city streets in Sofia. Transfer to the airport and end of program.
