Rila Monastery and the Boyana Church Tour

Meet our English speaking driver at 09:00 at hotel lobby.  The transfer time from Sofia to the Rila monastery takes usually one hour 30min. and depends mainly on the traffic conditions. Depending on your preferences you could enjoy the monastery for about 2 hours.  The Rila monastery is not only part of UNESCO World heritage but is also the biggest one in Bulgaria, dating back to the 10^th century and went through difficult and complicate history.

Rules to be respected in the monastery

It is not allowed:

• smoking in the monastery complex;
• entry in the complex with short skirts, shorts, vests, etc.;
• taking photographs and videos within the temple;
• going upstairs on the floors of the residential buildings;
• making noise, as well as entering with pets.

Rila Monastery has its own Post office from where you can send a postcard to your friends.

On the way back to Sofia you will visit the second UNESCO spot – the Boyana church  built in three stages – in the late 10^th and the early 11^th, the mid- 13^th and the mid- 19^th centuries. All these changes during the time allowed visitors unique murals of 89 scenes and 240 human images. On some portraits of humans have all-seeing eyes which follow the visitors everywhere, a technique developed on Bulgarian land before the one know in Italy.
